A Witch's Tale and P3 H2O Parallel

An insightful post I found on IMDB:

So phoebe turning into a mermaid, seemed to end up being more the center topic of these two episodes in "A Witches Tail". But it seemed that the center of the story was supposed to be more about Piper dealing with the circumstances of her Mom's death. Being afraid of dying by water the way her mom did. Even though Patty at the end talked about Piper's reason being because she did not want to leave her baby like Patty did with her kids, but all the various incidences in this episode leads it to be more about her being afraid of dying by drowning the way her mom did. They eluded to this a lot but didn't actually say it. I wish they had separated the two story lines in these episodes. Called 5x01 something like "H2O 2.0" or something.

After Leo's strong pep talk to piper and reminding her that she could end up not being able to complete the baby book like Patty because she died, seemed to have hit piper hard. Telling her she was being reckless and careless like patty seemed to have taken her to that place Prue had been in H2O.

Then soon after that there is the mermaid from the sea showing up, and the sea hag which must have really touched home for her really bad. Reminding piper of how patty died by the water demon. Would explain her freezing when the Sea Hag attacked in the manor, her sudden fear of possible title waves reaching the manor and the whole incident on the beach with her staring into the sea mindlessly like she was terrified of the water, and then letting go when they were going to orb to the sea hags cavern. Then eventually she gets dragged into the water to almost instsnt death by drowning but then being saved by her mom appearing to her.

Seemed like the writers were kind of hinting to all this but didn't want to focus on it probably not wanting to turn it into an P3 H2O thing since it was more of a Prue thing.

Piper: Wait a minute, we're talking about phoebe here, since when did Phoebe become Cold Hearted?

Well Piper, I guess you don't know your sister very well!!

"I think if phoebe just had swam away into the ocean the first time they put her there and everyone let her be and they forgot about her for the entire episode, it would have been better. They should have just told Cole to handle her situation as it's his problem. Maybe 4 episodes later he finds her."

"It's funny. I'd totally forgotten about that part of the episode - when I think of it, I just think of Phoebe the mermaid and remembering that Alyssa was afraid of water so for her to do that was pretty brave on her part.



I agree that it might have been better if it wasn't a two-parter - or if Piper's fear had been the main part of the cliffie rather than Phoebe swimming off.



Although, of course, if Cole wasn't part of it - if he'd been left behind in Season Four where he belonged - if we had never seen him again after his vanquishment as the Source - then there would've been more than enough time to do both storylines properly within one episode."
